Robotics Recruiting Growing | 7 Sprouting Robot Companies
Robotics job recruiting continues to grow. As robots infiltrate more aspects of our lives and industry, the appetite for robot engineers, research and development (R&D) scientists and technical personnel is increasing daily. Seven growing companies will push this trend further in 2021 and beyond.

Fast Growing Robotics Companies Need More Robot Talent

Robots have now, not only taken the shape of humans, but also are able to think and make human-like decisions. This advancement is of great significance, especially during the Covid-19 pandemic, as we seek to automate more tasks to avoid human contact.

Many robotic companies have made great progress in terms of innovation, raising money and launching groundbreaking applications. Seven of these robots companies offer great promise in 2021 and beyond.

Agility Robotics

Agility Robotics is making great strides with agile humanoid robots. They recently launched their most flexible product, Digit, with an upper torso and four arms that can overcome the limitations of traditional robots.

Their robot has human-like capabilities that make it possible for Digit to work along-side us in offices, factories or homes while navigating stairs, obstacles and other unstructured terrains. As a result, they will be one of the key companies leading robotics jobs recruiting efforts now and in the future.

AMP Robotics

AMP Robotics applies computer vision to process millions of images to classify complex material for waste segregation. Neuron, the company’s trademark platform, applies deep learning to improve its identification and classification of materials like paper, plastic and metals using color, size, shape and other factors. Neuron is then used by a robot Cortex to segregate materials with 99% accuracy.

Because AMP Robotics was named in the 2021 Global CleanTech 100 list by Cleantech Group (that recognizes innovative companies that are committed to delivering solutions to enhance the future) AMP will be another leader in robotics recruiting moving forward.

Boston Dynamics (BD)

Recently sold by Softbank to Hyundai, Boston Dynamics has become a leading player in moving or agile robots. Famous for its dog robot, SPOT, BD’s robots have great agility to perform tasks in terrains inaccessible to humans and in unstructured environments.

With Hyundai’s resources and markets now available to Boston Robotics, we might see its robots across more applications performing more sophisticated tasks. The company also plans to commercialize its robots for home use in the next year or so. This will lead to even more robotics recruiting at BD.

Diligent Robotics

Diligent Robotics creation Moxi helps hospitals run 24/7 while assisting the healthcare staff. It can help gather patient supplies, deliver lab samples, fetch items, distribute PPEs and deliver medication. Its relevance has gained momentum by reducing human intervention, which is necessary during the Covid-19 pandemic.

Moxi is socially intelligent with human-like features that can make eye-contact and provide a supporting arm. Recent studies have highlighted the significance of this for smooth Human-Robot interaction.

With healthcare automation accelerating at a rapid pace after the pandemic and the rising significance of social intelligence in robots, Diligent’s applications have become increasingly relevant driving even more robotics recruiting.

Exyn Technologies

Autonomous robots have become very important as people want intelligent machines to enter places that humans can’t go. Exyn Technologies has developed several such autonomous robots, including a drone, ExynAI, that can enter mines or abandoned buildings without any human intervention or existing GPS.

With scope for so many applications, these autonomous intelligent machines present in terms of the variety of data collection and performing tricky operations in precarious situations, Exyn thinks that the possibilities for their applications are endless. Therefore, Exyn joins the growing list of companies expanding their robotics recruiting.

Nuro

Nuro AI is a team of AI professionals who are passionate about advanced robotics who have won many international competitions and launched international products. Their trademark product, Nuro, is an autonomous vehicle that is used by delivery companies.

The car got the permit to deploy these vehicles last week from the Calfornia Department of Motor Vehicles in two countries. It is the first company to receive such a permit. Last month, it also received a new $500 million Series C funding, as it gets ready to deploy its vehicle on the streets in the new year.

This deployment will also lead to an increase in robotics recruiting including more research and development (R&D), information technology (IT), engineering, scientific, technical and manufacturing professionals.

Universal Robots

Universal Robots has emerged in 2020 as a top Human Robot Collaboration (HRC) company and has several applications worldwide. The industry was using articulated and cartesian robots but in a cage for safety purposes.

Universal Robots brought a concept for robots to work together with human beings for industrial tasks. Their integrator partnership approach developed several integrators and partners for many applications in diversified industrial fields.

They are pioneers and leaders for transforming industrial robots to work with humans. As of now, they have started to sell these ‘cobots’ in large quantities as they have become more affordable and popular. These increased sales will lead to a further increase in robotics jobs recruiting.

Improved Robot Recruitment Efforts Needed

With advances at these seven robot pioneers and other similar robots companies comes the need for advanced staffing and education efforts. Government programs need to progress to assist robotic recruiting efforts. For example, greater investments in STEM education including recruiting more talented STEM teachers for minting future robot contributors and leaders.

Additionally, within companies, staffing departments need to improve their robotic recruiting efforts. One way to do so is reviewing your company’s overall message to ensure that you have positioned yourselves as a viable place for robot talent to work.

Furthermore, staffing managers need to identify better methods for recruiting candidates for their companies. This can include a) identifying competitors b) uncovering viable candidates within those competitors c) contributing to robot blogs and magazines to get noticed by the engineer and R&D scientist candidates you seek and d) connecting to LinkedIn candidates who may become future candidates.

Then even if a valued robot candidate turns your job offer down, you will have many ready engineering replacements.

  3. Thank you sharing this Article Scott. I was able to align all the random news I read in the past 2 years in this article and a couple of them are totally new to me. Thank you

  4. When recruiting high performance talent present an honest work life balance upfront 10 percent travel means 25 to 50 percent, because high performance people deliver. And say if the travel is in a block of time or is spaced out over a month. A raw number or percentages are never enough information.

  11. Thank you for the article which highlights some of the players in robotics.
As companies seek greater efficiencies robotics and automation is one of the first stops.
The interaction/interface between man and machine is rapidly changing., Bryan Johnson and his group Kernel as well as Elon’s company Neuralink Corporation are investing in research to develop products which could be used to control and interface with computers and robots.
It might be nice to have a list of universities that are leading the charge in robotics so that academics, students, career development professionals, and employers could link up.
