Virtual Reality | Augmented Reality Driving Apple’s Future

virtual reality and augmented reality recruiting is increasing at Apple and other companies resulting in more VR and AR job openings than the talent to fill the jobs
Virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR) appear to be the cornerstone of Apple’s future efforts. This encompasses their research and development (R&D), engineering, scientific, information technology (IT), technical and manufacturing efforts and also includes Apple TV Plus.

As an example, Apple plans to debut AR glasses in 2020 according to Bloomberg News. Anyone wearing the AR glasses would see digital effects, like directions and text message notifications, overlaid on the real world.

Currently, Apple’s business still concentrates on iPhones. This is especially evident with the latest iPhone 11 which is selling well according to a new study.

Apple is also currently focusing on Apple TV Plus, the streaming-video service. The service is scheduled to be released next week and is projected to eventually grow into a $9 billion business according to Morgan Stanley.

But their future may truly lie in AR and VR.

AR and VR in Apple’s Future

Bloomberg News cites sources who have knowledge of Apple’s upcoming plans. Their AR glasses will have holographic displays in the lenses to show virtual elements overlaid on the real world.

According to the report these elements will provide everything from text messages to characters in video games. Bloomberg’s sources didn’t say exactly when the glasses would be ready or how much they’ll cost. And Apple didn’t confirm the Bloomberg report.

Apple’s iPhone 11 Is Their Current Big Seller

Consumer Intelligence Research Partners (CIRP) commented last week on Apple’s third quarter results. During that period the iPhone 11 lineup (iPhone 11, iPhone 11 Pro, and iPhone 11 Pro Max) collectively accounted for 20% of all Apple smartphone sales. That’s extremely impressive considering that the iPhone 11 was only available for the final 10 days at the end of the quarter.

Apple’s iPhone XR was the top-selling iPhone during the quarter. It premiered in 2018 and accounted for 36% of all Apple smartphone sales during the period.

Apple TV Plus Could Become A Big Business

Apple TV Plus is scheduled to debut on November 1st this year. In a note to investors this past week, Morgan Stanley analyst Katy Huberty predicted that Apple TV Plus will generate $9 billion in revenue for Apple by 2025.

The estimate is based on Huberty’s assumption that Apple will be able to attract 10% of its users to the service by 2025. Apple currently has about one billion devices worldwide. A 10% penetration rate translates into 100 million users, or about $6 billion in annual revenue at the $4.99 monthly access fee. Huberty assumes Apple would be able to grow the number of users of its devices and services in the coming years to get to that $9 billion mark.
