Recruiting Sluggish | Must Sharpen Job Interviewing Skills

Engineer and engineers job recruiting is soaring with more jobs than viable engineering jobs candidates
Recruiting rose by only 136,000 jobs last month according to today’s Labor Department employment figures. Though it was another all-time record with the 108th straight month of jobs creation, it was only an increase of 6,000 jobs over the previous month’s increase of 130,000 jobs. As a result, only 266,000 new jobs have been created over the last two months.

Several Positive Employment Figures

According to today’s U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics figures, the unemployment rate declined by .2% to 3.5 percent in September. Additionally, recruiting in health care and in professional and business services continued upward trends.

Healthcare jobs increased 39,000 in September, which was a robust 15,000 over the 24,000 healthcare jobs created in August. Furthermore, professional and business services recruitment increased by 34,000. The industry has added an average of 35,000 jobs per month thus far in 2019.

Government job recruiting continued its upward trend in September by adding 22,000 new jobs. As a result, government recruitment has added 147,000 jobs over the past 12 months, largely in local government.

Transportation and warehousing recruiting also edged up in September with 16,000 new jobs created.

All of these factors have helped the labor force participation rate to hold steady 63.2 percent in September.

Job Figures Not as Rosy as They Seem

Though the transportation and warehousing sector created 16,000 new jobs last month, within the industry, most of the recruiting occurred in transit and ground passenger transportation with 11,000 new jobs
and in couriers and messengers with 4,000 new jobs.

Additionally, retail trade employment fell by 11,000 jobs including within the industry, clothing and clothing accessories stores lost 14,000 jobs.

Also, government recruitment provided 22,000 of the new jobs in September and 147,000 jobs over the past 12 months. A healthy economy should not be so beholden to the government sector.

Furthermore, employment in other major industries, including mining, construction, manufacturing, wholesale trade, information, financial activities, and leisure and hospitality, showed
little change over the month.
