Interviewing Proficiency Secures Jobs During Coronavirus

Interviewing mastery is the most important part of landing a coveted position. This is both a historical employment fact and the message of my recent blog article: “Engineering Job Recruiting Slowing | You Need This Advantage.” This is even more spot-on today with the U.S. Labor Department announcing a drop of 701,000 jobs today and the largest over-the-month increase in the unemployment rate since January 1975 (BY .9% to 4.4%)!

Suffice to say that the numbers are bleak. They reflect my predicted retrenchment in the job market due to the coronavirus outbreak. Most of us are well aware of this new reality and I sincerely hope that it is temporary.

So, these are my thoughts about the current pandemic and the ensuing job market. They are based upon my 30+ years of experience recruiting engineering, technical, scientific, information technology (IT), research and development (R&D) and manufacturing technology talent for employer jobs worldwide.

In addition to abruptly interrupting our everyday lives, the coronavirus pandemic has halted the U.S. jobs market’s all-time record of 113th straight months of jobs creation.

In my opinion, the outlook in the immediate future will not be rosy.

Granted, we will eventually emerge out of this pandemic and the ‘Staying Home’ edict affecting most of us. But when we return, it will be to a new normal. We will certainly NOT immediately ramp up to the levels of job opportunities and salary trends that were evident just a few weeks ago.

Instead, I feel we must all prepare ourselves for layoffs, company closings and a tight labor market in the near future.

In anticipation of this new reality, I am currently developing a revolutionary 12-step interviewing program to assist those affected in these difficult times. The program will help you land employment opportunities in the new environment. And it will be available quickly.
