{"id":9232,"date":"2014-04-04T12:14:40","date_gmt":"2014-04-04T17:14:40","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.strategicsearch.com\/technical-recruiting-blog\/?p=1005"},"modified":"2014-04-04T12:14:40","modified_gmt":"2014-04-04T17:14:40","slug":"192000-jobs-created-recruiters-misusing-sat","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/strategicsearch.com\/beta\/192000-jobs-created-recruiters-misusing-sat\/","title":{"rendered":"192,000 Jobs Created; Recruiters Mis-using SAT"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>According to today\u2019s<a href=\"http:\/\/www.bls.gov\"> <b>Bureau of Labor Statistics<\/b> (BLS) report<\/a>, the unemployment rate remained at 6.7%, but <b><i>20,100,000 remained either unemployed or underemployed!<\/i><\/b><\/p>\n<p><b><i><\/i><\/b>Some sectors did add employment including:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><b>Professional and business services<\/b> gaining 57,000 last months for an average of 56,000 new jobs over the last 12 months.<\/li>\n<li><b>Food Services and Drinking Places<\/b> adding 30,000 new jobs last month and 323,000 over the past 12 months!<\/li>\n<li><b>Construction<\/b> adding 19,000 new workers last month bringing the total to 151,000 over the past year.<b><\/b><\/li>\n<li><b>Health Care<\/b> grew by 19,000 in March on top of the 10,000 added in February.<\/li>\n<li><b>Mining and Logging <\/b>also added 7,000 for an average increase of 3,000 over the past 12 months.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>However, with such miniscule employment growth and many job candidates to choose from, a wide range of companies is increasingly and <b>wrongly using <a href=\"https:\/\/sat.collegeboard.org\/home\">SAT scores <\/a>to screen out job candidates<\/b>. This includes both a) top management-consulting firms like <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bain.com\">Bane &amp; Co. <\/a><a href=\"http:\/\/www.mckinsey.com\">McKinsey &amp; Co<\/a>. and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bcg.com\">Boston Consulting Group<\/a> and b) leading investment bankers like <a href=\"http:\/\/www.goldmansachs.com\">Goldman Saks<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Unfortunately, the SAT was not developed to judge employment performance. Instead, it was only formulated to predict high school students\u2019 first year academic success including literacy and writing skills.
